Division I Power St. Johns University as well as fifty to seventy five other Colleges to be in attendance at Challenge Cup. St. Johns University is currently ranked #1 in the Nation going into the 2009 season. Last years St. Johns reached the NCAA D-I Semifinals. The Cherry Hill Firebirds are currently the #1 ranked team in New Jersey and they are also ranked at #32 in the Nation(gotsoccer.com). The team is coming off an impressive showing at the Kirkwood Soccer Tournament where they defeated Regional and National Power the Manhattan Phoenix in route to the Championship. The team is coached by Jody Roberts the current Associate Head Coach at Chestnut Hill College, located in Philadelphia, PA..
The Great Falls Elite boys U-17s will be attending the Challenge Cup. Great Falls are the current defending Virginia State Cup Champions and most recently were crowned Champions of the Potomac Memorial Day Tournament. The team is currently the #8 ranked team in the Nation(gotsoccer.com). The team holds recent victories over the YMS Xplosion at the Adidas Blue Chip Classic and in route to the Championship at Potomac they advanced out of a group that included defending Region 1 Champions Lower Merion Velez.
The most recent addition to the tournament are Virginia State Cup Finalist the SYA Copperheads(U-17s). The Copperheads have looked impressive in some of thier recent outings as they went undefeated at the adidas Blue Chip Classic and showed well at the Potomac Memorial Day Tournament as they came close to advancing out of their group and into the semi-finals. The Copperheads are ranked in the top 50 in the Nation in both the Gotsoccer.com and NSR Rankings polls.
Over the past fall and early Spring numerous tournaments have been cancelled due to rain. The following tournaments have been cancelled or cut short due to rain, The Jefferson Cup, March Madness, Maps Fall Challenge, MAPS MSSL Winter Showcase, MAPS MSSL Spring Showcase, etc... With these cancellations most participants are left with no refunds, hotel bills, and wasted trips. With the addition of the three turf fields the JBS Challenge Cup will not be cancelled due to rain.
